What to expect in “Understanding Your Relationship’s Enemy“
Class 1:
In the beginning
Learn More
- We will lay a foundation for marriage relationships based on science and Christian Faith.
- We will learn about the relationship roadblocks the enemy uses to create separation and conflict.
- We will review the beginning of your story as a couple and the bond that has seen you through ups and down.
- We will begin to learn about your relationship’s enemy: the cycle or pattern of stuck conversations or conflicts that all couples get trapped in.
Class 2:
Learning to recognize our relationship’s enemy
(part 1) Learn More
- We will learn about neurological processes that contribute to our stuck pattern.
- We will learn about the 2 basic wired-in strategies humans have for responding to distress in our primary relationships.
- We will identify the 7 components of our primary protective strategy for responding to times of relationship distress.
Class 3:
Learning to recognize our relationship’s enemy
(part 2) Learn More
- We will discover the 3 basic patterns or cycles that emerge when one person’s protective strategy collides with another person’s strategy.
- We will practice recognizing patterns in cinematic couples.
- We will work with our partners to identify our most common protective cycle.
Class 4:
Connecting our strategy to raw spots from early experience
- We will learn about emotionally sensitive raw spots that contribute to our protective strategy and the cycle with our spouse.
- We will learn a process to discover raw spots hidden under our protective responses.
- We will each practice using this process and sharing the journey with our partner.
Class 5:
That’s rough buddy – Revisiting a painful moment
- We will learn a process of noticing, revisiting, and reconnecting after a distressing interaction with our partner.
- We will each practice using the process to revisit and reconnect following a specific moment of distress in the relationship.

*Registration is for the entire 5-session group. The first payment is due at registration and once the therapist referral has been received. Subsequent payments will automatically be charged the day of sessions 2-5 whether or not you attend. Options may be available to make up missed material from your therapist or Infinity Family Therapy.
